چکیده

BACKGROUND The aim of the present study was to compare vascular healing response between everolimus-eluting stent (EES) and biolimus-eluting stent (BES) using optical coherence tomography (OCT). METHODS AND RESULTS In the NOBORI Biolimus-Eluting Versus XIENCE V/PROMUS Everolimus-Eluting Stent Trial (NEXT), a formal OCT substudy investigated 91 patients (55 EES-treated lesions in 48 patients and 51 BES-treated lesions in 43 patients) with 8-12 months follow-up imaging at 18 centers. A total of 980 frames with 8,996 struts in EES and 907 frames with 8,745 struts in BES were analyzed. Mean neointima thickness in EES and BES was 105±82μm and 91±80μm, respectively (P<0.001). With regard to stent-treated lesions, the percentage of struts not covered by neointima (3±7% vs. 9±10%, P<0.001) and the frequency of stent-treated lesions with any uncovered struts (n=28, 51% vs. n=42, 82%; P<0.001) were significantly lower in EES compared with BES. In addition, the percentage of malapposed struts (0.2±0.8% vs. 1.3±2.8%, P=0.006) and the frequency of stent-treated lesions with any malapposed struts (n=6, 11% vs. n=14, 27%; P=0.028) were significantly lower in EES compared with BES. CONCLUSIONS Incomplete vascular healing characterized by the presence of struts not covered by neointima and malapposed struts was less common in EES compared with BES.

Early neointimal coverage and vasodilator response following biodegradable polymer sirolimus-eluting vs. durable polymer zotarolimus-eluting stents in patients with acute coronary syndrome –HATTRICK-OCT trial.

BACKGROUND Patients at high bleeding risk would benefit from a shorter dual antiplatelet therapy after PCI. Compared to first-generation devices, the design of newer generation drug-eluting stents may facilitate more rapid anatomical and functional healing of stented vessel based on thinner stent platforms, biodegradable/biocompatible polymers and rapid drug elution. METHODS AND RESULTS Forty...

A randomized, open-label clinical trial using optical coherence tomography to compare two sirolimus-eluting stents, one with a biodegradable polymer and the other with a permanent polymer.

Intimal hyperplasia appears to differ after implanting a drug-eluting stent (DES) with a biodegradable or a permanent polymer. The aim of the present study was to compare biodegradable with permanent polymer DES, since the available data are limited. One hundred patients with de novo coronary artery stenosis were included in this study. The patients were classified into 2 groups: DES with a bio...

Vessel healings after stenting with different polymers in STEMI patients

BACKGROUND Different stents implantation in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients may influence the long term prognosis by affecting vessel healings after stenting. The aim of this study was to evaluate the vessel healings after implantation of drug eluting stents (DES) with biodegradable or durable polymer or of bare-metal stents (BMS) in patients with acute STEMI. METH...

Comparison of a novel biodegradable polymer sirolimus-eluting stent with a durable polymer everolimus-eluting stent: results of the randomized BIOFLOW-II trial.

BACKGROUND Biodegradable polymers for release of antiproliferative drugs from drug-eluting stents aim to improve vascular healing. We assessed noninferiority of a novel ultrathin strut drug-eluting stent releasing sirolimus from a biodegradable polymer (Orsiro, O-SES) compared with the durable polymer Xience Prime everolimus-eluting stent (X-EES) in terms of the primary end point in-stent late ...

Strut coverage and vessel wall response to a new-generation paclitaxel-eluting stent with an ultrathin biodegradable abluminal polymer: Optical Coherence Tomography Drug-Eluting Stent Investigation (OCTDESI).

BACKGROUND Polymer-coated drug-eluting stents are effective in preventing restenosis but have been associated with delayed healing and incomplete strut coverage. It is unknown whether paclitaxel-eluting stents (PES) with minimal biodegradable abluminal coating enhances strut coverage while preventing neointimal hyperplasia. Using optical coherence tomography (OCT) as a primary imaging modality,...
